URM Audio Ltd - Professional recording services and digital audio post-production

URM Audio Training

"My friend and colleague Eric James at URM Audio is even more fanatical than I am about attention to detail and getting things right, and that's saying a lot! He's the best person I can think of to teach anyone how to make a nit-picking edit, and his attention to detail in music and sound is unparalleled. If you want to learn how to edit, mix or process, I can think of no one better than Eric to show you how." Bob Katz - Digital Domain

We offer a number of short SADiE Accredited Training courses at both introductory and advanced levels. The courses take place at our well-equipped facilities in rural Suffolk, and illustrative and practice material is drawn directly from our professional audio work.

  • Introduction to SADiE (suitable for both speech and music production)

  • Introduction to Digital Editing

  • Advanced Digital Editing (Classical music)

  • Advanced Mastering Techniques (inc. Analogue and Digital processing: Compression, EQ, Reverb, Noise Reduction, Dithering, CD-R and DDP)

  • !NEW! - Introduction to LRX2: on-site, hands-on training for location recordists and broadcasters using a SADiE LRX2 for the first time, or for those wanting to go beyond MRT.

Course content is very flexible, and can generally be designed to cater for the needs of the individual client.

In addition to the accredited SADiE courses we also run more general one or two-day sessions:

  • Digital Music Editing - Sequoia and Pyramix

  • Mastering Processors and Processing - featuring the use of plug-ins from Algorithmix and CEDAR; digital outboard from Weiss and a t.c. electronic System 6000; and analogue outboard from Cranesong, Neve, and Pendulum.

These general courses are perfect for mastering engineers wishing to expand their skill-set; for mixing engineers who wish to better acquaint themselves with high-quality mastering processing; or even for the keen semi-professional who wishes to spend a day or two learning from operating in a professional facility.

The training is provided by Dr Eric James who has extensive experience both in the musical and educational fields. Eric writes regular technique columns and equipment reviews for Sound on Sound and other music tech magazines, and has just finished working with Bob Katz on the second edition of their very successful collaboration - Mastering Audio: The Art and the Science (Focal Press 2007).

Accommodation on-site in a gorgeous early 19th century Suffolk cottage is included in all packages.
